The face is one of the most important
attributes of female beauty – a symbol of attractiveness and desire. Many
women are not completely happy with the fullness and shape of their cheeks
and today women who are unhappy with their cheeks have many options which
include Cheek Implants.
High, prominent cheekbones are one of the facial features most frequently
associated with beauty. A deficient or flat cheek structure can make your
face look drawn and gaunt whether caused by congenital deficiency, age
related bone re-absorption or facial trauma.
Whether you want heightened and well-formed cheekbones like the ones you had
when you were young or you’ve never had well-defined cheekbones, cheek
implants may produce a dramatic change. It is important to achieve the
correct balance as over-prominent cheeks can give an appearance of
overweight and can look very unnatural. For many people cheek implants can
provide new facial contours and dimensions to bring facial features into
better balance. |

Reasons for having Cheen
Augmentation Surgery include |
 |
|
| |
|
• To increase self confidence and enhance
self image
• To give a more youthful appearance in a natural way
• To strengthen your profile by making the cheeks more prominent
• To give fullness to flat cheekbones
• To bring facial features in to better balance
• To correct a congenital heredity
Cheek implants are made in various shapes and sizes. They are made out of
materials that have been used successfully for years. Facial implants have
proven to provide a safe, predictable, low-risk cosmetic surgical procedure.
Facial implants are made from non-toxic materials such as expanded
polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) and silicone and have been implanted with no
reported cases of allergic reaction. There is no scientific evidence to show
that this is a harmful substance. The implants, designed specifically for
use in the cheek come in a variety of shapes and sizes. The implants are
custom-trimmed by your surgeon for a more natural fit and when positioned
and inserted look and feel normal so no one can tell the difference.
The best candidates are those who are in good physical health, are mentally
and psychologically stable, preferably do not smoke, those who want to
improve their appearance and those who have realistic expectations about the
procedure and the results. Extra reasons may include:
• Want to add definition to the face, especially the upper face
• Have no known allergies to the implant material used |

Pre-visit and during consultations the
surgeon will try to evaluate your physical-mental health and any medical
conditions. In order to obtain the best results it is important that you are
honest with the surgeon, that you advise any previous surgeries, if you are
taking any medications, herbal supplements, vitamins or other drugs and if
you smoke. Be sure to discuss your expectations and goals. the surgeon is
here to guide, advise and explain to you how the surgery will be performed,
possible alternative that may offer better results, the risks and
limitations of each as well as details of follow up and after care.
Be sure to tell the surgeon about any allergies you have (to foods, drugs,
environmental elements) or if any of the following pre-existing conditions
exist:
• thyroid problems such as hypothyroidism
• insufficient tear production or dryness of the eye
• elevated blood pressure or other circulatory disorders
• cardiovascular disease
• diabetes
• ophthalmic problems
• any other serious medical condition(s)
Carefully follow any instructions your surgeon gives you regarding eating
and drinking. Avoid aspirin and aspirin-containing medicines for 2 weeks
prior to surgery |

The Procedure
|
 |
|
| |
|
Incisions are either made at the top of the
upper lip, near the gums, or on the outer cheek, slightly below the lower
eyelid. The implant of the size and shape that the surgeon has selected is
then inserted through these incisions into a pocket created in the tissue.
In some cases, a small titanium screw is used to attach the implant and the
bone. The implants are placed on or below the cheekbones and the incisions
are closed with sutures that the body absorbs. When cheek implant surgery is
performed in conjunction with other facial procedures, the implants may be
inserted through the incisions used for that procedure. |

After Surgery and Recovery |
 |
|
| |
|
The stitches in the mouth dissolve in
approximately 10 days. There may be tightness, bruising and swelling for up
to 2 weeks after surgery. A liquid diet may be recommended for a few days
due to swelling the results of surgery may not be clearly visible for up to
4 months. This varies, particularly if cheek implants were performed in
conjunction with another surgery. Normal activities such as talking, yawning,
smiling and eating may be uncomfortable also during this time Make up can be
worn the day after surgery and most patients can return to work after a
couple of days.
The results of Cheek implants are permanent – however an implant may shift
over time or need to be exchanged or removed.
If you are looking for a new more dramatic profile that will provide new
facial contours bringing your facial features into better balance then maybe
Cheek Augmentation is for you. |

Risks and complications of
Cheek Implant surgery
Surgery is a serious business and not a decision to be taken lightly. There
is always the possibility that something may go wrong. No absolute
guarantees can be given. The surgeon will explain to you procedure, the
risks; alternatives and potential complications in detail so that you
understand what could go wrong.
It is very important that you follow the surgeons aftercare advice as this
is given to your for your benefit and will give you every chance of a speedy
and problem free recovery.
Complications of Cheek Implant surgery, when performed by a qualified
surgeon, are infrequent and normally minor although there is a possibility
of infection or a reaction to the anaesthetic. To reduce any risk the
surgeons instructions should be closely followed both before and after
surgery.
When infection does occur it is generally treated with antibiotics, but in
some cases this is not successful and it must be removed and later replaced.
Another risk is improper placement. In some cases, implants may shift so
that a second operation is necessary for repositioning. In rare cases, nerve
damage may occur.
Depression can often occur following cosmetic surgery. There are several
factors that contribute to post operative depression, including:
• The anticipation and stress of preparing for surgery can have a rebound
effect
• The medications, anaesthesia and trauma of the surgery have physical
effects that will affect your emotional well-being
• Stress and fear regarding complications and disfigurement
• Refraining from exercise can make you feel tired, blue, and out of sorts
• Adjusting to your new look
• Dealing with family and friends reactions to your surgery
• Financial stress
• Feeling guilty
Expecting to feel a bit down and accepting it as normal will help you get
back to normal sooner. Take time to relax, meditate and care for yourself.
It is also important to have support from others. Be sure to ask for help
from others. You can also find support online with other people who have had
the same procedure and may have similar experiences
