The breast is one of the most important
attributes of female beauty – a symbol of attractiveness and desire. Many
women are not completely happy with the size and shape of their breast and
today women who are unhappy with their breasts have many options which
include Breast Lift.
This procedure can provide dramatic results giving women freedom for the
considerable physical and emotional difficulties that drooping breasts can
cause. In some instances where significant weight loss or pregnancy has
occurred, this procedure can also be performed in conjunction with breast
implant surgery. Combining breast uplift surgery with implant surgery will
boost both the size and shape of the breast.
Over the years, pregnancy, nursing and the force of gravity all take their
toll on a womans breasts and body but breasts often lose their shape and
firmness and begin to sag as the skin loses its elasticity.
A Breast lift is an advanced and reasonably lengthy and complex surgical
procedure to raise and reshape sagging breasts, at least for a time. (No
surgery can defy the effects of gravity). It can also reduce the size of the
areola, the dark skin surrounding the nipple. |

Reasons for having Breast
Lift Surgery include |
 |
|
| |
|
• To increase self confidence and enhance
self image
• To give a more youthful appearance in a natural way
• To correct a bust that has been affected by the effects of gravity
• To balance a difference in uneven breast (assymetry)
• To reduce concerns about body size that may affect self esteem and
relationships
• To regain body shape after birth, dramatic weight loss, pregnancy
The best candidates for breast lift are those who are in good physical
health, are mentally and psychologically stable, preferably do not smoke,
those who want to improve their appearance and those who have realistic
expectations about the procedure and the results. Extra reasons may include;
• those who are women with small sagging breasts
• women with large and heavy breasts (but may find the results do not last
as long) |

Pre-visit and during consultations the
surgeon will try to evaluate your physical-mental health and any medical
conditions. In order to obtain the best results it is important that you are
honest with the surgeon, that you advise any previous surgeries, if you are
taking any medications, herbal supplements, vitamins or other drugs and if
you smoke. Be sure to discuss your expectations and goals. The surgeon is
here to guide, advise and explain to you how the surgery will be performed,
possible alternatives that may offer better results, the risks and
limitations of each as well as details of follow up and after care. |

The Procedure
|
 |
|
| |
|
There are different techniques that are used
for breast lift. A common method of lifting the breast involves three
seperate incisions. One incision is made around the areola, another vertical
incision runs from the bottom edge of the areola to the crease under the
breast, and the third incision is horizontal from beneath the breast and
follows the natural curve of the breast crease.
Breast lift surgery can vary in the design of the incisions. Size and shape
of your breasts, size of your areolas, and extent of the sagging are some of
the factors that will help the plastic surgeon determine the best technique
for the patient. Sometimes the horizontal incision beneath the breast can be
avoided and the vertical incision can be avoided in other techniques. The
surgeon will discuss modified techniques if you are a candidate for it.
The surgeon removes the excess breast skin and then shifts the nipple and
areola to a higher position. The areola can also be reduced in size. The
skin that had been located above the areola is brought down and together
beneath it. Sensation is preserved because the nipples and areolas remain
attached to underlying mounds of tissue, which also allows the ability to
breast-feed. |

After Surgery and Recovery |
 |
|
| |
|
Patients will be advised to refrain from work
to recover, usually 2 weeks, and no strenuous exercise for at least 8 weeks
following surgery. In the early days following discharge, patients are
strongly advised to stay mobile but to avoid any level of activity that
would put undue strain on the new surgical wounds.
Whist the breast lift operation is a relatively major procedure, the
operated area is often quite numb following surgery and patients often
express that they experience a surprising lack of post operative pain.
Should the patient require it though pain killers can be given.
The return of nipple sensitivity following surgery is entirelely variable in
different patients. The sensation in the nipples is often preserved but may
be temporarily reduced or enhanced whilst the scars heal. One in ten women
will lose some or all feeling in one or both of their nipples.
In order to re-shape the breast tissue visible scarring is unavoidable. The
appearance of surgical scars progressively fade after surgery. Usually
scarring matures and begins to fade to a cosmetically acceptable level
within 12 months following surgery. Very occasionally red, unsightly, firm
scars form, which do not fade easily, this condition is known as
Hypertrophic (or Keloid) scarring which may require further corrective
treatment.
The results are long lasting however breasts will continue to sag with age
weight changes or future pregnancies.
If you are looking for a procedure to give you a better shaped breast and a
more youthful look then a Breast Uplift is the answer. Most patients are
more than happy with the end results and often repeat the process. |

Risks and Complications of Breast
Uplift Surgery
Surgery is a serious business and not a decision to be taken lightly. There
is always the possibility that something may go wrong. No absolute
guarantees can be given. The surgeon will explain to you procedure, the
risks; alternatives and potential complications in detail so that you
understand what could go wrong.
It is very important that you follow the surgeons aftercare advice as this
is given to your for your benefit and will give you every chance of a speedy
and problem free recovery
All surgery involves an element of risk from developing complications.
However, cosmetic surgery is usually undertaken voluntarily and only when a
patient is in good health. Therefore the probablility of complications with
this kind of surgery are substantially lower than those who undergo surgery
for ill health reasons.
Risks such as pain, discomfort, bruising, swelling, bleeding, loss of
sensitivity, infection and scarring may occur but every effort will be made
to manage and minimise these risks to their lowest possible potential.
Smoking can adversely affect wound healing and heavy smokers may be
precluded from having this type of surgery as a result.
Depression can often occur following cosmetic surgery. There are several
factors that contribute to post operative depression, including:
• The anticipation and stress of preparing for surgery can have a rebound
effect
• The medications, anaesthesia and trauma of the surgery have physical
effects that will affect your emotional well-being
• Stress and fear regarding complications and disfigurement
• Refraining from exercise can make you feel tired, blue, and out of sorts
• Adjusting to your new look
• Dealing with family and friends reactions to your surgery
• Financial stress
• Feeling guilty
Expecting to feel a bit down and accepting it as normal will help you get
back to normal sooner. Take time to relax, meditate and care for yourself.
It is also important to have support from others. Be sure to ask for help
from others. You can also find support online with other people who have had
the same procedure and may have similar experiences
