The face is one of the
most important attributes of female beauty – a symbol of attractiveness and
desire. Many women are not completely happy with the size and shape of
their breast and today women who are unhappy with their face have many
options which include Mid Facelift.
As we age and facial
tissue starts drooping our face becomes more square looking. Unlike a
standard facelift which primarily addresses sagging in the lower face and
neck, the mid facelift is beneficial for those who have early signs of
facial ageing in the area of the cheek below the eyes.
While a facelift is
necessary to improve the “lower” two-thirds of the face including the jowls
and outer cheek, it cannot always address the central portion of the face
which start below the eyelid and goes to the sides of the neck. These
patients have excessive sagging of the muscles that travel from the
cheekbone to the upper lip.
In the cheek area, a
combination of deflation and descent of the cheek fat pads often creates a
hollow and sunken appearance below the lower lids and deepened nasolabial
folds (downward lines which extend from each side of the nose to the area
beside the corners of the mouth). A cheeklift is performed to correct the
sagging muscles and lift the cheek area and return a more youthful fullness
to the cheeks eliminating the “sunk in” appearance and minimise the folds at
the side of the mouth. |

Pre-visit and during consultations the
surgeon will try to evaluate your physical-mental health and any medical
conditions. In order to obtain the best results it is important that you are
honest with the surgeon, that you advise any previous surgeries, if you are
taking any medications, herbal supplements, vitamins or other drugs and if
you smoke. Be sure to discuss your expectations and goals. The surgeon is
here to guide, advise and explain to you how the surgery will be performed,
possible alternatives that may offer better results, the risks and
limitations of each as well as details of follow up and after care. |

The Procedure
|
 |
|
| |
|
Incisions are made in the same way as in
eyelid surgery just below the eyelashes or they can be above the ear or
through the underside of the upper lip. An endoscope is introduced through
the incision and are used to lift the delicate midface tissue of the
cheekbone. Once lifted the cheek tissue is elevated an repositioned upward (towards
the eyes) and to the side (towards the ears). The endotine midface device
which has five small tissue holders is used to grasp the cheek tissue
securely and this reduces skin irregularities and any dimpling.
Another method of performing a mid facelift involves making a small incision
in the temple area. These small incisions are typical of those used for a
browlift. The midface is re-positioned and the sagging cheek fat pad is
lifted together with underlying muscles. This results particularly in
correction of hollowing below the eyes, sagging around the mouth as well as
improvement in the jowl area.
With endoscopic surgery it can be done with general anaesthesia or with
local tumescent anaesthesia and İV or oral sedation. (Tumescent anaesthesia
means that it is injected in a large volume of saline solution, along with
epinephrine to minimize bleeding. This helps to separate tissues and makes
more room for the surgeon to work in.)
From an incision inside the mouth, the relevant structures are identified.
Then an incision is made in each temple, inside the hairline, from which
stitches are placed connecting the cheek pads to the temporal area. İf
desired, a cheek implant can be positioned at the same time, to give the
cheekbones more prominence in the overall facial shape. |

After Surgery and Recovery |
 |
|
| |
|
After surgery there will be some swelling and
bruising but less than in a full facelift. You can be back at work anywhere
between a week and a month post-op, depending on how strenuous your work is.
İn the first couple of days you can use ice to bring down the swelling. You
might feel some numbness or weakness in the middle part of your face but it
will not last long. Make up may be worn after 1 week.
The stitches are permanent and placed deep down at bone-level, where they
cannot be felt. It takes typically 30-60 days for the tissue to re-attach to
the bone, once implanted. Eventually the tissue adheres to the bone and
stays there, no muscles need to be tightened, which minimizes bruising
afterwards. Nor is any skin removed. The residual scars are small and not
visible, since the incisions were inside the mouth and under the hair.
Cheeklifts are a state-of-the-art procedure, less traumatic than a full
facelift, require a shorter recovery time and yield very rewarding and long
lasting results. The results are permanent but the aging process will
continue and the cheeks may begin to sag again over the course of some years.
However, refraining from smoking, long exposure to the sun and sudden shifts
in weight will make the effects last longer.
If you are looking for a procedure to give you a healthy, more youthful and
fuller appearance then a Mid Facelift is the answer. Most patients are more
than happy with the end results and often repeat the process. |
