area for fat to accumulate and a difficult area to lose weight on. The thigh lift is a procedure used often combined with liposuction by those who have tried fitness and weight loss methods and is used to address problems in the thighs and buttocks such as weak muscles, sagging skin, dimples, cellulite and stretch marks resulting in better proportioned thighs and lower body, a much smoother , youthful and fimer appearance.
A thigh lift is not uısed for the removal of fat, when combined with liposuction the procedure will remove fat deposits and tighten skin.

Planning

Pre-visit and during consultations the surgeon will try to evaluate your physical-mental health and any medical conditions. In order to obtain the best results it is important that you are honest with the surgeon, that you advise any previous surgeries, if you are taking any medications, herbal supplements, vitamins or other drugs and if you smoke. Be sure to discuss your expectations and goals. The surgeon is here to guide, advise and explain to you how the surgery will be performed, possible alternatives that may offer better results, the risks and limitations of each as well as details of follow up and after care.

The Procedure

There are a number of variations of thigh lifts including:
1. Inner thigh lift
This is often the choice for patients with problems as the result of weight loss or ageing and now have large amounts of excess skin that has lost its elasticity! The incision for this type of lift is usually made in the groin area so that scars will be hidden under normal clothes. If the inner thigh skin is excessive a vertical wedge of skin can also be removed along the inner thigh allowing horizontal and vertical tightening – this scar will rn from the inner groin down towards the knee.
2. Medial thigh lift
This is often the choice for those who have excess skin problems on the upper and inner thigh. The incision for this type of lift is usually made in the groin area and runs around the inside of the leg to the crease of the buttocks.
3. Bilateral thigh lift
This is often the choice for those who have problems with the front and outer sides of the thighs. The incision is usually made at the top of the leg and follows the line of underwear or bathing suit so that the scar will be hidden by normal clothing.
In all procedures the incision is made and then the surgeon weparates the skin on the thigh from the fat and muscle below by pulling the flap of skin upwards. Excess skin is then removed and the remaining skin stretched back into place. Drains will usually be used to remove any excess fluid and will be removed usually 3-5 days after surgery.

  After Surgery and Recovery

Aftger thigh lift surgery you will usually be swollen for the first few days and likely to feel some pain and discomfort or soreness which can be controlled by medication. You will usually stay in the hospital over night but longer is not usually necessary. 3-5 days of relaxation is recommended then 3-5 days of progressive activity. 12-14 days is the usual recovery time and 1-3 weeks wait before returning to work.
A special comprssion garment must be worn and is essential preventing swelling and facititates shrinkage for good results. This should be worn for up to 6 weeks but after a month is should not be necessary to be worn at night. Once the stitches and incisions have healed you should wear tight bicycle pants for example to help the skin heal in position.
There will be internal layered stitches used to close tissues which are normally absorbable, those on the surface of the skin will be removed between 7 and 10 days after surgery. Slight oozing along the stitch lines is normal. Discomfort from a thigh lift is usually less than most people expect.
Results of a thigh lift are permanent although ageing and gravity tend to cause scars to shift and laxity to return, therefore it may be necessary to repeat the operation after a number of years.
If you are looking for a procedure that will tone up your thighs then a thigh lift is the answer. Most patients are more than happy with end results.
